[OC] Introducing you to the topscorers of some of the lesser talked about European competitions
This sub mainly talks about the Top 5 leagues in Europe, and in particular the Premier League, which makes sense, because those are the biggest and best leagues in the world after all. But other leagues deserve some love too, so that’s what I wanted to do today. How this is going to work is that I will look at a league, give you the name of the player who is topscorer at the time of writing, his number of goals scored this season, and a little background about him. I’ll do this for leagues ranked 6th to 10th, so that if there is any interest I could then do 11 to 15 at a later date, and so on. Russia
Name: Fedor Chalov
Goals: 11
Chalov is a 20 year old striker who plays for CSKA Moscow, who are currently 3rd in the league with 31 goals scored in 22 matches. So, in terms of goal contributions Chalov is definitely their most important player. Aside for his 11 goals he also has 6 assists. He made his debut for the first team in 2016, in a domestic cup game against FK Yenisey Krasnoyarsk. His league debut came shortly after, in November of that same year he was substituted on for Lacina Traoré against FC Amkar Perm. On March 21st 2019 he made his debut for the Russian national team, in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Belgium Portugal
Name: Haris Seferovic
Goals: 16
Seferovic is a 27 year old striker from Switzerland playing for Benfica, currently the number 2 in the Portuguese league, just 3 points behind Porto. They’ve scored 73 goals in 27 matches. He also has 5 assists. Seferovic made his professional debut at Grasshopper Club Zürich of the Swiss Super League in April of 2009. In January of 2010 he was side by Italian team ACF Fiorentina. However, much of his time as a Fiorentina player was spent out on loan, before making a transfer to Real Sociedad in 2013. A year later he joined Eintracht Frankfurt, staying for 3 seasons before moving to Benfica. He is a Swiss international, representing them at the 2014 World Cup, Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup. In total he has made 59 appearances for Switzerland, scoring 17 goals. Belgium
Name: Hamdi Harbaoui
Goals: 20
Harbaoui is a 34 year old Tunisian striker playing for SV Zulte Waregem, currently in 4th place (out of 6) in their play off group, after finishing 11th out of 16 in the regular season. Starting his career in his home country at Espérance Sportive de Tunis, he moved to Belgium after playing more than 100 matches at Esperance. He arrived in Belgium at R.E. Mouscron in the 07/08 winter transfer window. After making just a few appearances in his first 6 months at the club he moved to Cercle Sportif Visé in the Third Division. After two seasons he was picked up by Oud-Heverlee Leuven, who were playing in the Second Division at the time. He immediately became a key player in Leuven, scoring 25 goals in the 10/11 season, crowning himself the league’s top scorer. After helping OH Leuven get promoted he moved clubs again, to Sporting Lokeren. There he won the Belgian cup twice, and he became league topscorer once. In July of 2014 he moved to Qatar SC, and in May 2016 he signed a 3 year deal with Udinese Calcio. However, he left after just 3 months, returning to Belgium. He signed for RSC Anderlecht, who loaned him out to RCS Charleroi in January 2017. He is also a Tunisian international. Ukraine
Moraes is a Brazilian-born Ukrainian forward for FC Shakhtar Donetsk, who are 7 points clear at the top of the table after 23 games. Moraes is 32 years old. He made his professional debut in Brazil at Santos FC, after which he played for a few other clubs in Brazil. In 2011, he played in the Romanian league for Gloria Bistrita, scoring a total of 18 goals. Then in February of 2011 he made his first transfer to Ukraine, to Metalurh Donetsk. However, he returned to Gloria in the summer of 2012 without a single appearance made. But then he was let go to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria, for the 2011/12 season. He finished the season as joint topscorer. In 2015 Moraes got a second chance in Ukraine when he joined FC Dynamo Kyiv on a free transfer. In his time there he helped Kyiv win the Ukrainian top league. On June 18th 2018 he joined Shakhtar, again on a free transfer. Turkey
Name: Mbaye Diagne
Goals: 26
Diagne is a Senegalese striker who is 27 years old. He moved from Kasimpasa SK to Galatasaray SK on deadline day of the January 2019 winter transfer window. Galatasaray is currently 2nd in the league, 3 points behind Istanbul Basaksehir FK. The second highest scorer in the league has just 13 goals. Diagne begin his career in the lower tiers of Italian football, at clubs like A.S.D. Brandizzio (where he scored 27 goals in 30 appearances) and A.C. Bra, scoring 23 in 29 Serie D matches. In 2013 he was signed by Serie A champions Juventus FC, who then loaned him out to Athletic Club Ajaccio in France. Diagne would never succeed at Juve, as he was loaned out to Lierse SK in Belgium, Al Shabab FC in Saudi Arabia, KVC Westerlo back in Belgium, and Újpest FC in Hungary. Then he finally made a permanent transfer, to Tianjin TEDA FC of the Chinese Super League. In 44 appearances he scored 16 goals, before landing in Turkey in the winter transfer window of 2018. Diagne has played 3 matches for the Senegalese national team, all of them coming in 2018. I hope you liked this little overview of the topscorers of the European leagues ranked 6th to 10th, and as I said in the intro, let me know if you want me to continue this further. Sources I used the SofaScore app to look at the topscorers of the leagues and then Wikipedia to talk about their careers.
The source of data is from both Futhead and fifarenderz.com. I checked for Nigerian players in Fifa 18 from futhead and tallied for their position and Ovr in Fifa Mobile from fifarenderz. Before you guys rush to the market, I suggest you guys check your Reserve for these players. I did that and I didn't need to buy any players for Okocha. There are also a few players who have special cards like Onyekuru (Matchups), Osimhen (scouting) and Ogbeche (Totw) which will have different Ovr from the table.
The January transfer window is here! During the window I will be covering all transfers and providing 5 threads for discussion. Due to the workload only the top 5 leagues will be covered, apart from on deadline day. Please bare with me if I make any mistakes or delay in updating, it's a big job. Check back daily for updates and discussion. Most recent transfers will be at the bottom of each respective table (big signings may be at the top). Post any developments as they unfold! __
Note: The EPL deadline is January 31st. However, La Liga, Budesliga, Serie and Ligue 1 close on February 2nd, so there may be other transfers after the 31st. __
Watford are set for talks with Barcelona with regards to Gerard Deulofeu who has told Javi Gracia he wishes to remain at Watford. With his contract set to expire next year the deal will be around 15m.
Barça agree to Deulofeu exit and will meet with Watford next week. Deulofeu communicated to Barça several weeks ago that his desire was to remain at Watford next season, where he spent the last six months on loan. The Premier League club also want that, although the deails of the deal need to be discussed. The meeting with Pozzo is planned in Barcelona for next week. Barça will accept less than 20 million, although they want a number of performance-related clauses and a cut of any future sale."
Watford are in pole position to sign Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in a £4million deal. The Hornets want to sign a new No.1 with veteran Heurelho Gomes out of favour and error-prone loanee Orestis Karnezis on his way out. And the Pole is at the top of their shopping list amid rival Premier League interest from West Ham and Cardiff. Fabianski, 34, has told relegated Swansea he wants out and is confident of being thrown a top-flight lifeline.
"We are prepared to wait until after the World Cup with Trezeguet,” Oksuz told media in Turkey. "He’s under contract with our club so we are relaxed about the situation. If he enjoys a good World Cup and suitable bids arrive for both parties then we can, but that’s not the case at the moment."
Watford are reportedly leading the race to sign €15 million rated forward Gregoire Defrel. The 26-year-old joined Roma on loan from Sassuolo last summer but has failed to make an impression for this season’s beaten Champions League semi-finalists.
Hamburger Sportverein Hamburg, one of the three cities in Germany with over a million inhabitants is a city, with its very own flair. People from Hamburg are characterized as rather left-leaning, grumpy at first sight, but with a very dry humor but very humorous. The river Elbe, is the reason for Hamburg’s port, which is one of the largest in Europe together with Rotterdam. But the Elbe is seemingly everywhere in Hamburg, which leads to many beautiful sights around the city, as the Speicherstadt or the Alster showcase. Districts as St. Pauli are especially notorious for being very open to all people, if they respect and tolerate others’ choices as well and attract people from all over the world. To sum up Hamburg, there is a saying which states that Hamburg isn’t a city, but a way of life. The two dominant clubs in Hamburg are the HSV and ST. Pauli, but St. Pauli has always been in the shadow of the much larger HSV, who plays in the Volksparkstadion, a stadium with a capacity of of 57k. Hamburg Speicherstadt Volksparkstadion hsv History HSV was formed in 1909 by the fusion of three clubs in Hamburg, which were founded in 1887,1888 and 1906. The clubs itself proclaims it’s foundation 1887, but that is just a minor point. Hamburg was a dominant side in it’s early years, being awarded the German Championship in 1922 for the first time. But as they were awarded this Championship because of the disqualification Nürnberg by the DFB, Hamburg declined which means that there is no German Champion for the year 1922. But they were able to win a regular Championship one year later and six years later. The following 40 years, Hamburg was able to celebrate success on a local level, but were overwhelmed by the national competition. They were one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963. Hambrug was a mid-table club for the first few years, but was able to reach the Cup Winner’s cup in 1967 due to reaching the final of the DFB-Pokal against Champions Bayern Munich. They were able to reach the final of the European Cup, but were beaten by Milano 2:0. Hamburgs Fortunes turned in the late 70’s and early 80’s as they were able to win the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977, their first Bundesliga in 1797 and celebrate the biggest success in the History of the Club by winning the Champions Cup in 1983 outside of adding two further Bundesligas to their trophy cabinet. After this golden era for Hamburg, the club fell back into mid-table irrelevance until the turn of the millennium, when they finished 3rd. Although Hamburg had many different managers in the 00’s, they were able to finish in the top six quite regularly with players such as Ivica Olic, Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong and Managers Huub Stevens and Martin Jol. After being defeated twice by arch-rivals Bremen in cup tournaments in 2009, Jol left the club for Ajax. But Hamburg struggled the following years and became a team, which had to fight off relegation twice in the past three years, only narrowly being able to maintain it’s spot as the only club able to compete in every Bundesliga season. Notable Players in the club’s history: Uwe Seeler: Hamburg’s living legend, Uwe Seeler was Germany’s best striker in the 60’s and was pas part of the squad which lost out to the Three Lions at Wembley in 1966. Scoring 404 goals in 476 apperances, Hamburg’s fans adore him to this day. Horst Hrubesch: Another legendary Striker, Hrubesch only played in Hamburg for five seasons but was able to score 96 goals. He was aprt of the side which was able to win the Champion’s Cup in 1983 and was feared because of his headers! Jerome Boateng: Arrived from Berlin in 2007 and was a regualar in Hamburg’s side until he was sold to Man City. What could have been.. Vincent Kompany: Kompany arrived in 2006 to replace Belgian compatriot Van Buyten, but he was never able to show his quality consistently, which led to his sale to Man City two seasons later. Kevin Keegan: Arriving as a Liverpool Hero in 1977, Keegan is one of the most prominent English players in the history of the Bundesliga. After early struggles, Keegan was able to impress at Hamburg for the three seasons he played in Hamburg before leaving for Southamption in 1980. Last Season:

Top Scorer: Nicolai Müller (9) Starting off the season, Hamburg was able to showcase their improvemtn by only losing 5:0 to Bayern, compared to an 8:0 the season prior. Hamburg however gained points quickly and after the Winter Break even vaguely looked at the European Spots as they were in 7th from time to time. But as time passed and the match days went by, Hamburg’s limited quality was found out and they finished 10th, but I don’t think many Hamburg fans complained after the drama the two seasons prior. Tactics: Bruno Labbadia’s main task last season was to improve Hamburg’s defense, which he was able to do by making them defend deeper and stand more compact with shorter defenses between each player. The weak point of Hambrug’s team last season was their attack, which consisted mostly of hoofball up to Lassoga or Schipplock, who tried to hold up the ball and have the midfield support them. This wasn’t a very successful approach as Hamburg didn’t want to commit so many players forward and the limited quality of the strikers. Hamburg’s defense and goalkeeper are the exact same as previous season, as well as the two CM’s which will probably 2 of Holtby,Ekdal and Hunt. The Attacking three behind the stiker have been revamped, with fresh faces Kostic and Halilovic. Especially dangerous Winger Kostic should lead to a visible improvement for Hamburg. While Striker Lassoga will most likely start off the season, it isn’t out of reason to see Bobby Wood competing for and taking his place in the starting XI. Transfer Window: In:

Three notable Players: Filip Kostic One of the few quality players in Stutgart’s side last year, Kostic wanted nothing to do with second division football and was sold to Hamburg, although Wolfsburg were heavily linked with him as well. His signing is a real signal of Intent by Hamburg as he was sought out by clubs which could have offered him European football. His main area of improvement will have to be his consistency. Rene Adler Flashback to 2010: Germany’s up and coming starting Goalkeeper must announce that he will miss the upcoming World-Cup. He is replaced by Manuel Neuer and well… the rest is history. After losing out on his starting spot to Bernd Leno due to Injury as well, Adler has been able to regain form at Hamburg and was one of the better Goalkeepers last season. Alen Halilovic Croatia’s brightest talent and Europe’s most sought after youngster in 2014, Alen Halilovic will hope to impress at Hamburg after not being able to secure a spot in Barcelona’s side. His transfer to Hamburg has been hailed as a coup by Hamburg’s Director of Football, but as Barcelona aren’t naïve either, they have put a buy-back option on the talented youngster. Predicted Starting XI --------------------------------Lassoga-------------------------------- -----Kostic-------------------Halilovic-----------Müller------------ ---------------------Hunt-------------Ekdal----------------------- Ostzorlek-------------Djourou---------Spahic--------Diekmeier ---------------------------------------Adler------------------------------- Wrap-up: After avoiding the fight against relegation for the first time in years and many good additions to the squad, there is cautious optimism around HSV these days. Manager Labbadia was able to install confidence in his squad last season, which was repaid in points. Hamburg is at crossroads now, will they fall back into old habits and struggle at the beginning of the season or will they be able to recapture past glory and maybe even fight for Europe? What to like: Improved dramatically last season, good additions, good squad cohesion, improved offense What to not like: Labbadia’s sides tend to struggle in his second year as a manager, and they still don’t have a proven goal scorer up front. It’s still Hamburg, who somehow always manage to let down their supporters. Predicted Table:
STVV's equaliser came on the second phase of one of his corners, after Victor Valdes had flapped at the original delivery
Received a yellow card in the first minute of second half stoppage time for time wasting
STVV are 9th in the league table

*Clean sheets and goals conceded are only counted for defenders and goalkeepers, whilst penalties saved are (obviously) only counted for goalkeepers
**Williams played in defence 4 times - CS: 0, GC: 9
***Stewart played in defence once - CS: 0, GC: 2
I haven’t put these statistics for Williams and Stewart in the table because their respective defensive figures relative to the number of games they have each played would be misleading, due to their appearances in midfield
The top 4 progress to Group 1 of the final stage where they will compete with the top 4 from the South Division for the U18 Premier League title and a spot in the 2016-17 UEFA Youth League
The bottom 7 teams in the North Division cannot mathematically catch Liverpool
Liverpool will secure qualification for Group 1 if Blackburn fail to beat Sunderland on Tuesday
Has returned to Liverpool temporarily whilst he recovers from injury per a clause in his contract which allows Liverpool’s medical staff to take full control in scenarios like this
I watched this one, and I have to say I think the SPL might finally have a title race this season
Celtic took the lead from the penalty spot - Ward dived the right way but the penalty was expertly fired into the bottom corner by Leigh Griffiths
Having gotten themselves level through a penalty of their own, Aberdeen were reduced to 10-men as the occasion appeared to get the better of Jonny Hayes
Paul Quinn then scored a dramatic late goal for the home side before clearing one off the line in stoppage time after Griffiths had rounded Ward following an error by Andrew Considine (tbh it looked like Griffiths’ shot was going wide anyway)
Neither goalkeeper had much involvement in what was a very even game
Aberdeen made it a new club record start of 6 wins out of 6 in the SPL, and can go 5 points clear at the top if they win their game in hand on Tuesday night
Had a positive impact on the game, playing just off of Luiz Adriano
Hit the post from long range and also forced a good save out of Samir Handanovic from a 35-yard free-kick
Completely unrelated to LFC but I did enjoy this piece of skill from Inter Milan’s Alex Telles
AC Milan are 12th in Serie A, having lost 2 of their first 3 matches
Samed Yesil (FC Luzern) ST
Grasshoppers Zürich (H), Super League
Made his debut as a substitute in 3-3 draw
Replaced Marco Schneuwly after 75 minutes
Luzern are 5th in the league after 8 matches
Taiwo Awoniyi (FSV Frankfurt) ST
Eintracht Braunschweig (H), 2. Bundesliga
Didn’t make the match day squad for 0-3 defeat
FSV are 12th in the league after 6 matches
Allan Rodrigues de Souza (Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho) DM
Kuopion Palloseura (A), Veikkausliiga
Made his SJK debut as a substitute in 1-1 draw
Replaced Jussi Vasara after 56 minutes
Scored the opening goal of the game, 16 minutes after coming on
FC Lahti (H), Veikkausliiga
Played 61 minutes in 0-0 draw
Received a booking after 40 minutes
Replaced by former Fulham midfielder Wayne Brown
SJK are now 2nd in the Veikkausliiga, 2 points behind RoPS but with a game in hand
HJK are level with SJK on points and have 2 games in hand on RoPS (i.e. 1 game in hand on SJK)

*Clean sheets and goals conceded are only counted for defenders and goalkeepers, whilst penalties saved are (obviously) only counted for goalkeepers.
**Williams has played in defence twice - CS: 0, GC: 6.
***Stewart has played in defence once - CS: 0, GC: 2.
I haven’t put these statistics for Williams and Stewart in the table because their respective defensive figures relative to the number of games they have each played would be misleading, due to their appearances in midfield.
